 Films in Medical Education

Last month Professor Pablo Gonzales Blasco, director of SOBRAMFA (the Brazilian Society of Family Medicine) ran a workshop on Cinema in Medical Education at University College London, hosted by Professor Trisha Greenhalgh. Using clips from non-medical films including The Lion King, Pretty Women and Men of Honour among others, he described how this process can help students understand the humanity of being a doctor, and provides a forum for discussion and reflection. Professor Blasco is a contributor to Cinemeducation and Professor Greenhalgh is author of What Seems to be the Trouble? “We need to teach the art of doctoring”, said Professor Blasco.

Mental Health in Family Medicine journal announcement

Mental Health in Family Medicine is the new name for the quarterly journal Primary Care Mental Health.  It has a new editor, too – Dr Gabriel Ivbijaro, of the Wood Street Medical Centre, London, UK and Chairman of the Wonca Working Party on Mental Health.  The Editorial Board has been greatly strengthened by some of the world’s leading authorities, and their influence is already being seen in the number and quality of submissions being offered for publication in the journal.

Mental Health in Family Medicine is now the official journal of the Wonca Working Party on Mental Health.  This prestigious international body is dedicated to the exchange of mental health research, knowledge and education and its involvement will greatly enhance the value of the journal to subscribers.
