Syllabus Outline content: Workbook 1 Hot Topics in Primary Care This workbook is intended to be very flexible so that as new developments occur in primary healthcare they can be incorporated into the new programme.  Covering recent changes and current 'hot topics' in primary care. Workbook 2 Clinical Governance This workbook considers that background to clinical governance and how it impacts on life within general practice. Workbook 3 Improving Teamwork Takes a fresh look at the work of the primary healthcare team and considers the variety of roles and responsibilities in the team. Workbook 4 Assertive Behaviour This workbook revisits the topic of assertiveness and how to develop skills in this area. Workbook 5 Resolving Conflict and Aggression Considers in depth the issues involved in handling situations that could lead to aggression.  The concepts of body language and transactional analysis are introduced, with strategies for resolving conflict and applying them to the workplace and everyday life. Workbook 6 Confidentiality Considers what confidentiality is and why it is so important.  Looking at the areas of practice covered by the ethics and rules of confidentiality, and how the recommendations of Caldicott impact the surgery. Workbook 7 Personal Effectiveness Intended to help learners feel their role in general practice has professional standing, and that they can assess their own effectiveness and worth as part of the primary care team. Workbook 8 Case Studies Lively case studies and scenarios for each of the workbooks, containing activities to be completed.  Designed to help learners gain maximum benefit from the course and put into action the new skills they have gained.
