Nurse Prescribing Programme
This programme is based around the framework for maintaining
competency in
nurse and nurse supplementary prescribing as identified
by the National Prescribing Centre. It acts as a reflective
action guide for students undertaking the NMC validated Extended and
Supplementary Nurse Prescribing courses (V200 and V300).
The interactive workbooks will facilitate the application of
theory to practice by identifying critical incidents and accessible
resources within the clinical setting. This leads to competent and
professionally accountable independent and supplementary
prescribing. It will also provide guidance for practice-based
mentors, many of whom have had little preparation for the role.
Recent policy changes that extend prescribing
powers for nurses and other health professionals have been rapid. This programme meets an area of need that has been
identified in evaluating an accredited extended and supplementary
nurse prescribing course.
