Now incorporated into
Quality in Primary Care

From 2003, Journal of Clinical Excellence will be incorporated into Quality in Primary Care. There is significant overlap in terms of content in both journals, with themes such as effectiveness, excellence, principles, quality, learning, and the interface between primary and secondary care, all of which are generalisable across primary and secondary care organisations. Healthcare professionals working in this sector are served well by this journal and find it invaluable for their research and day-to-day practice. Please click on the following link www.radcliffe-oxford.com/qpc for more information on subscribing to and submitting papers to this journal.

Contributing

Papers submitted for publication should be sent to Professor Allen Hutchinson, Professor of Public Health, The University of Sheffield, Section of Public Health, ScHARR, Regent Court, 30 Regent Street, Sheffield S1 4DA, UK.

Journal scope

The journal welcomes original articles on quality improvement, research, evidence, experience and policy concerning clinical excellence and good clinical practice.  Articles should contain material of generalisable relevance to UK health and social care and be written for the non-specialist reader.

Originality and copyright

It will be assumed that all material submitted for publication in Journal of Clinical Excellence is offered on the understanding that it has not been accepted for publication elsewhere and, on acceptance, it becomes the copyright of the journal.  Permission to reproduce previously published material must be obtained in writing from the copyright holder (usually the publisher) and the original source should be acknowledged in the manuscript.

Types of paper accepted

Original articles, including research papers, should be between 1000 and 3000 words; however, short reports between 500 and 1000 words, concerning audit projects, are also welcome. Letters commenting on papers, news items, book reviews, and notices of non-commercial conferences may also be submitted for publication.

Refereeing

Submissions are subject to peer review, a process which is undertaken with a minimum of delay so that those papers accepted for publication can be included in the first available issue.  The journal aims to return peer-review comments to authors within eight weeks.  Authors are invited to recommend two appropriate reviewers for their paper whom the Editor might approach.  Before final acceptance authors may be asked to revise submissions in the light of referees' comments.

Preparation of manuscripts

Four copies of each manuscript are required and, in addition, authors will be asked to submit the final version on disk in Microsoft Word.

The manuscript should be typed on one side only of A4 paper, and be double-line spaced. Margins should be not less than 3 cm. Pages should be numbered consecutively, beginning with the title page. If figures and tables are submitted on disk, each figure and table should be placed in a separate file. References should be presented as a separate list, and not as endnotes.

Upon acceptance of an article for publication, the authors will be requested to transfer the copyright to Radcliffe Medical Press Ltd. If previously published material is quoted in any article, it is the responsibility of the author of the article being submitted to obtain permission from the original publisher to use that material.

Presentation of papers
