Now incorporated into
Quality in Primary Care

From 2003, Journal of Clinical Excellence will be incorporated into Quality in Primary Care. There is significant overlap in terms of content in both journals, with themes such as effectiveness, excellence, principles, quality, learning, and the interface between primary and secondary care, all of which are generalisable across primary and secondary care organisations. Healthcare professionals working in this sector are served well by this journal and find it invaluable for their research and day-to-day practice. Aims and scope

In an era of unprecedented challenge to the accepted role of service provision and professional practice, there is a need for a focus on indicators of excellence, and authoritative debate and innovative ideas on quality improvement.  This is what the Journal of Clinical Excellence provides; it is for busy professionals needing to learn from their peers; to apply resources to change healthcare systems where research and policy dictate; and to meet the highest standards of evidence-based clinical practice.  The journal is designed to enable examples of best practice experience and research to be brought to the attention of the whole healthcare community.

Editorial policy develops to reflect the changing demands of policy makers, commissioners and providers, enabling the professional community to provide an academic response to developments within the National Institute for Clinical Excellence and the Commission for Health Improvement, and to the implementation of National Service Frameworks and other policy initiatives.  All this will be linked to a framework for improving and maintaining a quality service for patient care in the 21st century.  In doing so, the Journal of Clinical Excellence will encourage debate on the future of the health service and therefore provide a valuable insight for those commercial interests in needing to anticipate change.

The Journal of Clinical Excellence contributes to improving health and social care in the UK by publishing high-quality, academic articles concerning the quality of clinical care, its impact on patients, and the role which structure and organisation of healthcare systems play in this process.  All articles accepted for publication will be fully referenced, peer-reviewed and based on sound clinical evidence.
