Publishing with Radcliffe Publishing
These days it is usually the smaller, independent publishers like
Radcliffe that can provide authors and editors with the personal support, enthusiasm and
collaboration which leads to successful publication. Although much of the work
appearing under the Radcliffe imprint has been specifically commissioned in anticipation
of the market needs, unsolicited proposals are given equal and speedy consideration.
Such proposals should, in the first instance, be sent to Gillian Nineham, Editorial Director,
Radcliffe Publishing Ltd,
18 Marcham Road, Abingdon OX14 1AA. Ideally, they should
consist of a synopsis of around 200 words describing the publication's scope, purpose and
intended market; a contents list, brief details of the authors, editors and contributors
involved and approximate extent. Normally, proposals are sent for independent
editorial review which invites positive comment on how they might be enhanced.
When a project has been accepted our editorial, production and
marketing teams work very closely with authors to ensure that publication can be achieved
as fast as possible and that every practical opportunity to maximise sales is
exploited. Radcliffe does its own order processing and despatch, providing a service
which is second to none. Fees to contributors are paid on publication, and authors
and editors receive royalties twice yearly.

Who is behind Radcliffe?
The company was formed in 1987 by its managing director, Andrew Bax,
who had over 20 years' experience in academic and medical publishing, primarily in
marketing. He was joined soon afterwards by former colleagues Gillian Nineham as
editorial director and Margaret McKeown as financial director. Together they have
built a dedicated team of enthusiasts who share the same commitment to the highest
standards in everything they do. This team has now been together for a number of
years and enjoys excellent relationships with its wide network of past, current and future
authors, many of whom advise the company on its future publications and direction.
In an era of consolidation, rapid change and globalisation, it is
refreshing to know that the tradition of British publishing can still exist in a fiercely
competitive environment. Radcliffe Publishing has a vision which allows taking
risks in the interests of getting there first and doing it best; it is a vision which has
won the respect of many organisations and opinion leaders in the healthcare sectors that
it serves.
